Digital News Report- John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s only son, Jett, died today at the age of 16 while the family was on vacation in the Bahamas. The family had arrived in the Bahamas on Tuesday and was staying at the Old Bahama Bay resort community, a frequent vacation destination for the Travolta’s.
Statements have attributed his death to both a seizure and an accident involving bumping his head in the bathroom. An autopsy has not yet been performed, but will be performed on Monday. A definite cause of death has not yet been announced.
According to Police Superintendent Basil Rahming, Jett was last seen entering the bathroom on Thursday night. Jett was found in the bathroom at around 10:00am by a caretaker. After unsuccessful attempts at reviving him, the family rushed him to Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport where he was pronounced dead.
Jett apparently suffered from Kawosaki disease, but many have questioned whether or not this was a factor in his death. Most people who suffer from the illness are under five years of age and the disease is easily treatable once discovered.
Kawosaki disease causes inflammation of organs including the skin and mucous membranes, lymph nodes, blood vessel walls, and the heart. According to familydoctor.org, “ it usually takes a few weeks for a child to get over Kawasaki disease.” The family attributes the disease to chemicals that they used on their carpet when Jett was a child.
His death has also brought back the allegations of autism, which the Travolta’s have denied. In order to treat Jett’s ailment, John and Kelly put him through a detoxification program that is based on the writings of L. Ron Hubbard. John Travolta has been in Scientology since 1975 when he was given a copy of Hubbards book, Dianetics, on the set of The Devil’s Rain. Kelly Preston is also an actress and appeared alongside her husband in Battlefield Earth, which was based off of one of Hubbards science fiction novels.
Jett was John Travolta and Kelly Preston oldest child and only son. They also have a daughter Ella Bleu, who is eight years old. Funeral arrangements are being made in Ocala, Florida.
