Digital News Report- Little Debbie’s snacks have joined the ranks of foods recalled after the most recent salmonella outbreak. Over 470 people have been infected in 43 states and cause at least six deaths. More than 90 people have been hospitalized. The salmonella has been linked to peanut butter paste produced by Peanut Corp. of America in Blakeley, Georgia. Peanut butter sold in jars at Supermarkets appear to be safe, according to Stephen Sundlof, head of the Food and Drug Administration’s food safety center.
Kellog’s has voluntarily recalled sixteen of their products that contain peanut butter. Other products that have been recalled include candies from the South Bend Chocolate Co. in Indianaa and cookies from the Ralcorp Frozen Bakery Products in Chicago that it sells through Wal-Mart stores. Hy-Vee Inc. supermarkets of West Des Moines, Iowa have recalled certain products made in its bakery departments.
“This is a very active investigation, but we don’t yet have the data to provide consumers with specifics about what brands or products they should avoid,” said Sundlof. Peanut Corps. of America supplies products to 85 companies, but Federal officials are focusing particularly on 32 of them due to the time period in which they received shipments.
