Digital News Report- Just how many promises did Obama make on the campaign trail? How many has he kept? It’s barely been a week since the new President took office, but many people are already keeping a close eye on just how many of his promises are actually seeing some action.
PoliticFact.com is keeping track of around 500 specific promises that he made and has divided them up into categories such as promises kept, compromises, promises broken, stalled, in the works, and promises that have seen no action. The last category is the largest at 488.
However, in the first week he has kept 5 promises, including appointing a Republican to his cabinet and changing the capital gains tax law, and has 14 in the works. The one stalled promise is working to create a $3,000 tax credit to companies that create jobs, which has been halted by congress. According to the website, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., has said, “if you have a company and you’re selling fewer shingles, $3,000 isn’t going to get you to hire somebody when your sales are shrinking.”
The list is compiled by the St Petersburg Times, which also runs the Truth-o-Meter that keeps track of statements made by politicians and verifies whether or not they are true.
