Digital News Report- During the busy holiday season, New York’s Times Square is flooded with tourists gazing at the flashing lights of advertisements and gawking at the naked cowboy as he serenades any woman who passes by. But a common crisis strikes many as they wonder through the square. Where do you go to the bathroom?
Charmin to the rescue! From November 24th to New Years Eve for the past three years Charmin has opened a public restroom smack dab in the middle of it all with 20 restrooms free for anyone willing to wait in line for it. It includes a flat screen television, a photo opportunity (after you’ve used the toilet, of course), a retail boutique, and fluffy Charmin toilet paper. This year they crowned Joey Fatone of N*SYNC fame as “King of the Throne” to kick off the season.
This year marked a first for the Charmin restrooms. They were open on New Years from 12am to 2am for the millions of people who watched the 2009 ball drop. The crowd is sectioned off starting at 3pm with no access to a toilet. According to Charmin, “some tourists have admitted to wearing diapers to the event, while others have resorted to using bottles to relieve themselves.”
“We hope to continue providing this gift to tourists and New Yorkers because we know how difficult it is to find a public restroom in the heart of the busiest city in the world during New Years Eve,” stated Jacques Hagopian, brand manager for Charmin.
Though you may be too late to experience these restrooms this year, definitely make plans to stop by on your visit to Times Square during the next holiday season. The facility is both useful and entertaining. It’s hard to miss the facilities. Just look around Time Square for the giant bears doing to potty dance and head in that direction.
