Digital News Report- After last weeks announcement by Attorney General Eric Holder that DEA raids on medical marijuana dispensaries would end, supporters of medical cannabis exhaled in relief. During the Bush administration, the DEA shut down nearly 40 dispensaries in the 14 states where medical marijuana is legal. The raids continued for weeks after President Obama took office.
Obama stated during the campaign that he was in favor of medicinal use of marijuana. “My attitude is if the science and the doctors suggest that the best palliative care and the way to relieve pain and suffering is medical marijuana, then that’s something I’m open to,” Obama stated in November of 2007 in Audubon, Iowa. “There’s no difference between that and morphine when it comes to just giving people relief from pain.”
Holder stated that what Obama said on the campaign trail is, “now American Policy.”
