Digital News Report- It’s ending. It’s really ending. After four seasons of revolutionizing the Sci-fi genre, Battlestar Galactica is finally coming to an end. Will fans be pleased? Will our questions be answered? Or are we going to have two hours of Lee chasing a pigeon with a broom?
Tonight’s episode will be two hours and eleven minutes long, so for those of you who are setting their DVR’s, you have been warned. There are so many questions left unanswered, but it’s hard to tell what answers we will actually get. What the frak is up with Starbuck? What’s with all the Head characters? What’s the secret of the Opera House? Will Athena and Helo get Hera back? What’s up with Lee chasing the frakking pigeon with a broom? Seriously? What was the point of that scene?
All will be revealed…. Tonight. And if it isn’t revealed tonight it probably never will be. Sure, there is a ton of spin off media. There is a TV movie called “The Plan” that will look at the beginning of the show from the Cylon’s perspective. There is a new show in the works called Caprica that will follow the creation of the Cylons on the colonies. There is even a comic book called “Battlestar Galactica: The Final Five.” But for the most part, the story of Galactica and all of the mysteries surrounding the survivors that we’ve all grown to love will end.
For those of you who don’t want to suffer through the end of the show alone, Entertainment Weekly has set up a special “blogging frak-party” to help console you. They describe the experience as being, like a party line, but without the sadness.” Of course, this is only if you can tear yourself away from the screen long enough to type. Hey, there are commercial breaks.
There are also loads of drinking games to help numb your pain. Take Out has listed such rules as, “To commemorate the first episode of BSG, everyone takes a shot 33 minutes into the episode” and, “If Tigh or Adama drinks, take a drink (and contemplate the benefits of AA).” With that last one, you should be sufficiently plastered in minutes.
Well, I’ll post my thoughts tonight if I’m not too trashed or crying too hard. If either of those occur, expect an update when I regain my composure.
