Digital News Report- Spring is here and a large amount of fantastic films are just around the corner. Whether it’s a new installment of a science fiction franchise, a Oscar buzzing drama, or a cute family animation, there is something coming out this Spring that is sure to pique your interest. Here are a few selected films that we are looking forward to:
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine in the latest installment of the X-men movie franchise. The last installment received mixed reviews, but the popularity of Wolverine alone has given some fans faith that the films can be redeemed. Set about 20 years before the first X-men film, this movie chronicles Logan’s violent past and, well, his origin story. Expect it to be released on May 1st in the US.
Star Trek
Trekkies across the country have May 8th circled on their calendars. Zachary Quinto, who is best known as Sylar from Heroes, will be Spock and Chris Pine is Kirk in JJ Abrams “reboot” of Gene Roddenberry’s enormously popular science fiction franchise. The hype for this film has been huge as the first teaser trailer aired at the beginning of Cloverfield in January 2008, over a year before the films release.
Terminator: Salvation
Not much can be said about Terminator. If you love the franchise, you’ll probably love the new movie too. With the Sarah Connor Chronicles airing on TV, Terminator if clearly making a come back. The film will be released on may 25th.
The Soloist
Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. star in this highly anticipated drama that has been receiving Oscar buzz before being released in theatres. Foxx stars as the real life Nathaniel Ayres, a schizophrenic musician who is discovered by a journalist. Its official release date is April 24th.
Up
Pixar’s latest animation will be released on May 29th and if the trailer is any indication, it’ll be a winner. The story follows a retired balloon salesman who ties a massive amount of balloons to his house in an effort to keep a promise to his late wife and avoid being put in a nursing home. However, a chubby boy scout gets stuck with him on the adventure. This film has what Disney and Pixar do best; humor and heart.
