Digital News Report- Comedy Central has announced a special April Fool’s Day episode of South Park that will air on Wednesday at 10:00pm. The episode, titled “Eat, Pray, Queef,” will feature a prank played on everyone’s favorite group of fourth graders that will leave Butters incapacitated, Cartman furious (no surprise there), and the rest of the boys in fear.
South Park, which is entering it’s 13th season, is known for its’ often self referential humor or pranks on the audience. During the episode Trapped in the Closet, which featured the controversial Scientology Xenu story, the ending credits were listed only as “John Smith” and “Jane Smith,” as a reference to the litigious reputation of the Church. A later episode, “The Return of Chef,” featured recycled audio of Isaac Hayes after he left the show due to the “Trapped in the Closet” episode.
The episode following the election of President Barack Obama also attracted a lot of attention due to its timeliness. Airing only 23 hours after the election, the episode featured excerpts from both Obama and McCain’s speeches. Their quick turn around for episode production was also noticed during the episode It’s Christmas in Canada, which featured the capture of Saddam Hussein, which occurred only three days prior.
Whether this episode will follow in the same vein of notorious prank episodes past remains to be seen. However, I couldn’t imagine a better show to air on April Fool’s Day and I’ll definitely be tuning in. But maybe I’ve hyped this too much. Maybe it’ll just be a half an hour of fart jokes, which South Park is also notorious for.
