Digital News Report- Nerds everywhere (myself included) are eagerly awaiting the film adaptation of the popular Watchmen graphic novel. Advanced tickets to the show are accounting for 61% of all sales on Fandango and the film doesn’t even open until Friday. I am not immune to this advanced ticket craze. Two tickets to the midnight showing are resting soundly in my wallet. Many of these shows are already sold out across the country.
Advanced ticket sales have already surpassed director Zack Snyder’s previous movie, 300, at this point in the film’s sales cycle. But 300 was no small film. It broke the record for the biggest opening weekend in March at $70,885,301. It was the 24th highest opening weekend box office gross of all time.
Watchmen is based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and focuses on the U.S. in 1985 where costumed superheroes are common place. As the doomsday clock approaches closer to midnight, these masked heroes start to get killed off. The main character, Rorschach, begins to unravel a string of conspiracies. Not excited? Well, you should be.
This eager young nerd promises the post a review of the film immediately after viewing the film so stay tuned.
