Digital News Report – Size matters and electronics manufactures are trying to figure out what size works best for tablets. This new wave of computers / slates / tablets / readers will give consumers many choices, but none more important than size. Eventually all of the tablets will have the same or similar software features.
Dell is betting that smaller is better (see video below). Dell presented their idea at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week. Their device is reported to be just 5 inches. Compare that to the 7 inch Sony Daily or the 6 inch Kindle, Dell is smaller still.
Rather than refer to the device as a tablet or reader, Dell representatives reportedly called it a slate. PC Magazine has reported that Apple will call their new reader a “iSlate”. The debate reminds me of the terms “cell phone” and “mobile phone”.
Dell’s slate is running the Google Android operating system. The slate is reported to include a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash mounted on the rear of the device. The Dell computer will likely include a stand, SIM slot and may be a mobile phone as well.

Start up took a long time, and the device looked to be unresponsive at times. Dell better fix these bugs if they plan on competing seriously with what should be a stellar Apple device.
