Digital News Report – An asteroid discovered earlier this month was caught on film as it flew by the Earth just 80,000 miles away. Italian astronomers captured the rock (asteroid or comet) as it flew by Wednesday night.
It is estimated that the rock (dubbed 2010 AL30) measured between 33 and 50 feet across. The trajectory took it just 80,000 miles of Earth, just one-third the distance to the moon.
If it had entered Earth’s orbit it would have likely burned-up in the atmosphere.
