Digital News Report – Steve Jobs unveiled the new Apple iPad today at a San Francisco press conference. The audience loved the 1.5 pound tablet, which incorporates much of the technology from the iPhone, iPod and Mac computer.
The iPad is not meant to replace the Mac, but the Apple CEO said that it is way better than a laptop. It incorporates a 9.7-inch (diagonal) color LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology. The coating is supposed to be fingerprint “resistant”.
There are three basic models and all have WiFi capabilities. If you want 3G-connectivity you can order that separately. Neither the iPad nor the 3G service is available yet. They expect the 3G service to be available in March, so perhaps the iPad will be available sometime before then.
There are three models to choose from. The least expensive is $499 and it comes with 16GB of memory. For a hundred dollars more you can double the memory to 32GB and for another hundred you can get 64 GB.
It includes:
iPad
Dock connector to USB cable
10W Power Adapter
