Digital News Report – The health care bill passed Sunday night with all Republicans members of the House of Representatives voting against it. There were a few Democrats who voted against the bill including John Tanner of Tennessee.
“After thorough and careful review of the legislation, I am unconvinced that the long-term trend of rising health care costs is adequately addressed and am therefore unable to support the legislation,” Tanner said in a statement.
The final vote that allowed passage of the bill came from Representative Bart Stupak (D-Mich). Stupak, who is opposed to government funding abortion, agreed to the bill after he got assurances that an executive order would be issued from the Whitehouse that would ban taxpayer funding for abortion.
