Digital News Report – The Stock Market was mixed today with the Dow lower but the S&P and NASDAQ higher. The market was in a tight range while investors digested the Federal Reserve meeting minutes.
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) must meet at least four times a year to make or determine the direction of the nation’s monetary policy. Federal Reserve bank presidents and the board of governors typically meet ever 5 to 8 weeks to discuss the Fed Funds rate and other issues.
There wasn’t much to report so the market made modest moves. Citigroup and Bank of America were the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) biggest movers today followed by Ford. Ford was down but Citi and BofA were higher slightly.
Computer Associates (CA) said its earnings were at the low end of their forecasts. Shares were down nearly two percent.
Massey Energy Co was down 11 percent. There were 25 coal miners killed near Charleston W Virginia after an explosion in their mine. Four miners are still missing in the Upper Big Branch Mine.
