SACRAMENTO – Senator Roy Ashburn (R-Bakersfield) honored retiring HSR Director Mehdi Morshed today with a Senate Resolution for his years of dedicated service to the High Speed Rail Authority.
Morshed served as a member of the California high-speed rail commission from 1994 to 1996 and was appointed as the first Executive Director of the California High speed rail Authority in 1998. He has guided the development of the California High Speed Train Project from its inception, and has been an advocate for high speed train nationwide.
Senator Ashburn is a strong supporter of a fast efficient mass transit system linking Northern and Southern California. High speed rail has the potential to bring vast benefits to Central Valley residents and California. The route proposed for the Central Valley will create high paying jobs for the 18th Senate District and ease the congestion on the valley’s major highways thereby also lessening the air pollution trapped in the Valley.
“Without a doubt, Mehdi Morshed has become a leading voice for High Speed Rail in California and through out the world,” said Ashburn. “We honor him for the great work he has done for the people of our state.”
