Digital News Report – Barbara Walters, 80, announced on ABC’s “The View” daytime talk show, that she will be undergoing heart surgery to fix a valve later this week. Walters said that she will be returning to “The View” in September.
Walters said that she knew of the problem for some time, and both she and her doctors have decided that now is the time to undergo the heart surgery to replace the valve.
Walters told viewers that she will be having her heart valve replaced. Walters will be undergoing open-heart surgery which is a serious operation. Heart valves can lose function for a number of reasons and sometimes require a replacement of an artificial valve.
The heart valves keep the flow of blood going in the right direction in the heart. If the heart valve doesn’t close properly the blood can flow backwards which can cause a number of problems.
