Digital News Report – Senator Sam Aanestad (R-Grass Valley) is pleased to announce the selection of Brett Michelin following a long search for the top policy position in his Capitol Office: the position of Chief of Staff. Michelin – who served as Senator Aanestad’s Chief of Staff in the State Assembly and in the State Senate – and will also be working with Senate Republican Leadership staff.
“I needed someone who could assume responsibility at a moment’s notice – because the legislative ball is already rolling,” said Senator Aanestad. “Brett brings a wealth of understanding and experience to the position of Chief of Staff. I’m comfortable working with him – and I know that he will have no problem whatsoever to taking the reins of my Capitol Office halfway through the legislative year.”
Michelin has spent the past six years lobbying on behalf of the California Medical Association (CMA) and has deep connections within the State Capitol community. He brings a wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of the state budget process and mid-year legislative challenges.
“I’m very pleased that Senator Aanestad has chosen to bring such a capable and seasoned veteran back into the Capitol, said Senate Republican Leader Dennis Hollingsworth. “While Brett will be serving as Chief of Staff to Senator Aanestad, his insight and experience will be an asset to the entire Republican Caucus as we enter budget talks and the end of the legislative session.”
Michelin replaces former Chief of Staff Mark Reeder – who recently resigned to take a similar position with the Office of Senator Mark Wyland (R-Carlsbad).
