Digital news Report – Amazon’s Kindle eBook reader has been having its fair share of competition in the handheld ebook reader marketplace. New competitors, Borders and Barnes and Noble have introduced their portable ebook readers, which has prompted Amazon to offer a lower price model called the Kindle Wi-Fi, and to improve upon their Kindle with upgraded improvements.

The Kindle Wi-Fi is their low price model selling for $139. This is to compete with Borders ebook Readers that sell in this price range as well. The features are similar to the regular Kindle except it does not come with the 3G wireless service, it only comes with the Wi-Fi capability.

Amazon Kindle 3G eBook Reader – Newest Generation Model Features
The new Amazon Kindle is 21 percent smaller and weighs in 15 percent lighter than the previous model but still has the same 6 inch screen reading area as the previous model, which makes this handheld ebook reader easy to take along with you. They are using the new electronic-ink screen with a color graphite option in this next generation Kindle ebook reader. The new display technology has improved the contrast by 50 percent. The new Kindle also has 20 percent faster page turn capabilities. The battery can last up to one month and they have double the storage of the previous model, holding up to 3,500 books. This is the model that offers the free 3G wireless service along with the built in Wi-Fi capability. The price is $189.
Amazon still has the Kindle DX model which offers a 9.7 inch (diagonal) display. The larger ebook reader currently sells for $379.
