Digital News Report – Often airports face bad weather for delays in airport travel, but on November 24th, a group of people are asking you to “opt out” of the body scanners and get the pat down inspection instead. This could delay travel because of the delayed inspection process by the TSA homeland security workers doing the pat downs instead. The protestors say that they are not trying to delay travel but to make a message to lawmakers of this invasion of privacy. But they suggest to show up early just in case of delays.
The website promoting the “Opt Out” day is at http://www.optoutday.com/ and explains why they are encouraging the opting out strategy. They feel that November 24th being “National Opt Out Day” will hopefully let lawmakers know that citizens in the US want to travel on an airplane without losing our privacy. You can opt out of the full body xray scanner on any day.
The protestors are asking when it is your turn for the AIT or Advance Imaging Technology or xray machine to tell the TSA worker that you “opt out.” Then you will do a pat down with a TSA worker, but don’t go in the back room said the protestors, instead have the pat down completed in public so that others can see the whole ordeal. They also highly suggest showing up with plenty of time for the pat down process. Plus don’t cause any trouble at the airport and do as your told by the TSA worker.
Currently Rep. Ron Paul has introduced H.R. 6416: The American Traveler Dignity Act in Congress to address the invasion of privacy on airplane travelers. Watch the video below.
