Digital News Report – Spoiled ground beef products are being recalled in California and Oregon. The USDA found evidence that New Jersey-based “One Great Burger” company repackaged the product. Evidently the company recoded the products for institutional customers.
The beef could have been distributed to prisons, nursing homes and schools, and bore the item number #02044. Each box bears establishment number “EST. 34575” within the USDA mark of inspection.
The problem came to light after customers complained about discoloration and off-odors. There have been no reports of illness.
If individuals show signs of illness they should contact a physician. For more information contact the company at: John Haug, Director of Technical Services, (973) 477-9039.
Less than two weeks ago there was a recall on approximately 34,373 pounds of ground beef from a California company.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reports that the beef was organic and may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
