Digital News Report – Activision announced today that they will no longer be developing new releases of the Guitar Hero franchise. They said that due to the decline in sales they made the decision to disband their Guitar and DJ Hero business unit for Hero branded games in 2011.
Activision said that they didn’t stop making the Guitar Hero products. They will continue selling the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero titles including Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and DJ Hero 2 which were recently released this past Christmas.

There is going to be a new DLC track and mix pack released in February only because the company has already completed it. Activision said that they will continue to support and sell the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero branded games.
The reason for the halt in developing new products for the Hero branded games was because they were declining in sales and they would not be profitable for the company. If the demand turns around they might restart development, but at this time they said that licensing and manufacturing costs make it difficult to sell at a profit, especially with declining sale volume.
