Digital News Report – There are lots of health insurance policies throughout the United States. State governments monitor prices and some have kept the corporations in their state not-for-profit.
In Texas, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is non-profit. Other insurance companies in the state include Cigna and Aetna. We did a survey of some of the low-cost plans in Texas.
United Health One had their Saver 80 plan. For a 41-year old non-smoking male, the monthly premium is only $94.17. Office visits are not covered, there is a 20% co-insurance and a $10,000 deductible. This plan will cover patients who need major medical procedures but lacks coverage for office visits and tests. This is a “network” plan.
Another low cost plan is the Value 100/7500 from Humana One. This plan does not cover doctors’ office visits, but has a 0% co-insurance and a $7,500 deductible. This is a PPO plan for $94.36 a month.
Another PPO health plan is the Celtic Basic PPO 70/30 Plan. This basic medical plan provides $30 office visits, a 30 percent co-insurance and a $7,500 deductible. This plan will cost $120.29 per month.
All of the above plans are basic plans. The monthly premium is calculated for a 41-year old man who does not smoke. Other factors that may affect the premium are pre-existing conditions and weight.
The state provides Medicaid options and the health insurance companies provide options for Medicare recipients. BlueCross BlueShiled of Texas provides Medicare Supplement insurance and Medicare Part D coverage.
They also offer temporary insurance, comprehensive coverage and high-deductible plans. There is no free lunch. The low deductible plans will cost more. The good news is that there are a plethora of plans to choose from.
