Digital News Report – Although health care reform has not been fully implemented, many insurance companies have already begun to comply. By 2014, states will be required to have health exchanges set up.
We have evaluated health insurance plans through much of the United States and found that policies in New York typically cost more.
For a non-smoking 31-year old man, policies start at $181 per month. That was the least expensive policy. With the TraditionPLUS Hospital Program from Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, doctor’s visits are not covered.
The Indemnity type plan offers a zero dollar deductible, with zero percent co-insurance. This is a major medical insurance plan only. Hospital-billed services are covered in full, but drugs are not. This is a good plan if you don’t mind coordinating the billing and reimbursement of your claims.
The Atlantis Healthy NY High Deductible w/o Rx is the next least expensive plan. Drugs are not covered, but the plan only costs $241.44 a month. There is a $1,200 yearly deductible and zero percent co-insurance. Doctor’s visits are only $20 after the deductible is met.
Unlike the Blue Cross plan, this plan has a maximum out-of-pocket. The maximum an individual will spend is $5,250. The Atlantis plan is Health Savings Account (HSA) eligible.
The next least expensive plan in New York City is over $300. United Health care Company offers insurance through their Oxford Health Plans.
