Digital News Report – A new sweep of Tornadoes in the South happened this Wednesday and Thursday and are estimated to have killed over 200 people. Overall, this Spring has had more tornadoes in more areas around the nation than in recent years.
According to a report from CNN, there was at least 234 people in six states that have been killed. Around 149 people were killed in Alabama. In Mississippi there was 32 deaths. Tennessee had reported 30 deaths. Georgia had 14 deaths. Then there was 8 deaths reported in Virginia and one death in Arkansas. Officials are still searching for many missing people. The death numbers could rise.
Many areas of Alabama have had power outages. The power company has been working to restore power as fast as possible. The University of Alabama has canceled classes through Friday, April 29, 2011, because of the severe weather.
