Digital News Report – Law enforcement in Butte, Glenn, Sacramento, Placer and Yuba counties conducted a major gang and drug crime sweep to arrest 23 people. This announcement was made today by the Attorney General Kamala D. Harris.
The crime sweep involved a father-and-son-led criminal operation that involved transnational and prison gangs who dealt both illegal narcotics and firearms.
“As long as violent gangs continue to wreak havoc up and down California,” Attorney General Harris said, “my office will continue to partner with local law enforcement to shut them down and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
Over 200 law enforcement agents from local, state, and federal offices were involved in breaking up this crime ring. There were 23 individuals arrested in the sting operation at 16 different locations where search warrants were served. The law enforcement officials found significant amounts of illegal drugs, had seized firearms, and over $17,000 in cash.
According to the Attorney General statement, four of every 10 homicides in California are gang-related.
