Digital News Report – Although neither company has publicly announced the sale, it is being reported that Twitter is in the process of purchasing TweetDeck.
On Monday CNN Money reported that Twitter has already purchased the company. TechCrunch sites sources that the acquisition was for a sum between $40 million and $50 million. PC World says it looks like it is a “done deal”.
TweetDeck is an Adobe AIR desktop application for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Buzz, Foursquare, and MySpace. Users can send and receive tweets and view profiles.
TweetDeck was originally available for Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. In June of 2009 it released a version for Apple iPhone and in May of last year they released a version for the iPad. An Android version is available in beta.
The deal is expected to be made with both cash and stock.
