Digital News Report – Shaquille O’Neal made his announcement online through his Twitter account by posting a video clip announcing that he is retiring soon from his professional basketball career with the NBA.
Shaquille O’Neal said at Tout.com, “We did it, nineteen years baby. I want to thank you very much. That’s why I’m telling you first – I’m about to retire.”
O’Neal had a long career, starting with the Orlando Magic team between 1992 -1996, and then moved to the LA Lakers from 1996 – 2004, followed by the Miami Heat team between 2004 – 2008. He then went to play for the Phoenix Sun in 2008 – 2009, followed by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009-2010. His last year in professional basketball was with the Boston Celtics for 2010 – 2011.
O’Neal was born on March 6, 1972 and is 39 years old. He stands 7-feet 1-inch tall. In his basketball career, he has won numerous awards. He was a 15 time All-Star and was a three-time NBA Finals MVP in 2000, 2001, and 2002. O’Neal won four NBA Championship titles – three with the LA Lakers, and once with the Miami Heat. He also was awarded the NBA’s MVP for 1999 – 2000. O’Neal is considered one of the best players in the NBA.
