Digital News Report – The annual Brickworld convention was held last week in Chicago and is the largest event for LEGO enthusiasts. One of the highlights of the event, was a huge LEGO replica of the ‘Love Boat’ built by Ryan McNaught. ‘Love Boat,’ was a popular TV series in the 1980’s. The actor that played the ship’s captain, Gavin MacLeod, surprised Ryan McNaught at the convention. MacLeod gave McNaught a captain’s hat.
McNaught explained that it took around a quarter of a million LEGO bricks to make his ‘Love Boat’ replica. The LEGO creation weighs over 350 pounds, and is 9.5 feet long and three feet tall. McNaught said that it took him over three months in his spare time to build it. He had to send it all the way from Australia in sections two weeks before the show in order to have it displayed at the convention.
