Digital News Report – Dr. Oz developed a 48-hour weekend cleanse to optimize cleansing the body from toxins, which he shared on his TV show. He had three women do other detox diets and shared their results on ‘The Dr. Oz Show.’ After this segment of the show, Doctor Oz shared what he thought was a healthier way to detox and cleanse the body from toxins.
Marcy’s cleanse was to have a cleansing-drink mixture of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and water 6-12 times a day. At night, she drank a laxative tea. She said that the detox diet helped her to lose 4 pounds in 3 days, but was moody, and had headaches during the process.
Maureen’s cleanse was to drink 6 fruit & vegetable juices each day. The vegetables are all raw and were made into a juice. She also lost 4 pounds, but did not like the way the green juice drink tasted.
Annette’s cleanse had more food options. On the first day, she could drink a protein shake every 2 hours. For dinner, she ate a salad with lean protein and olive oil drizzled on top. Day Two and three she ate fruit every 2 hours and drank an 8 ounce glass of water. For dinner, she would drink a protein drink with salad with olive oil. She lost 6 pounds during this detox and she said that it went very well.
Dr. Oz said that the weight loss the women experienced was more than likely muscle lost and not so much fat because the body was going into starvation mode. Your body has its own detox system in place.
Dr. Oz said that the most important organ that would be helped with a detox diet is the liver. The liver is filtering out all the toxins coming into the body. If your liver cannot filter it out, he said it could let the toxins slipping through into the body. He suggests eating more dark berries and hot peppers to improve the liver’s ability to filter out toxins.
The bacteria inside the colon should be continually flushed out. Eat a diet high fiber and whole grains to detox the colon said Dr. Oz. Whole grains have natural occurring phosphorus, which helps to detox the colon.
Kidneys are important because they continually filter the blood explained Dr. Oz. Every 40 minutes your kidney filters all the blood in the body. He suggests eating soy food products to help flush out excess fluid as it acts like a diuretic. Dr. Oz said that the number one detoxifying foods are cruciferous vegetables, which include cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower.
Dr. Oz said that you have to have enough nutrition to help detox the body correctly. Therefore, he put together his own 48-hour detox diet plan. Dr. Oz did the diet himself and shared it with the viewers what detox foods to eat.

At this point Dr. Oz said that while his detox plan is less than 2,000 calories it was not designed for weight loss.
Dinner
For dinner, he suggests having a vegetable broth soup that is made with fennel, garlic, cabbage, and shitake mushrooms in the soup. Alongside the soup, he has a bowl of sauerkraut with sliced apples alongside. The recipe for the soup is available on his the Doctor Oz website.
