Digital News Report – AT&T U-verse TV will have the first wireless receivers available for customers to order starting on October 31, 2011. AT&T said that they are the first TV service provider to offer a wireless receiver.
AT&T said that this would make arranging rooms and putting TV sets in places that might have not happened because of the need to connect to a TV outlet. With wireless reception the TV set could be placed in a room that might otherwise been not used for watching TV.
AT&T conducted a customer survey to see if a wireless receiver would be important to their customers. They found that two-thirds of those surveyed said it was either very or somewhat important to be able to move from the TV to another location without needing an outlet.
With many consumers wanting to hang their HDTV on the wall, a wireless receiver may be a popular option to help hide the wires without spending a bunch of money to move the TV outlet and power plugs.
There is a onetime cost of $49 for the Wireless Receiver along with the regular $7 per month rental fee for the receiver.
