Digital News Report – The Kimberly-Clark company announced a limited recall of Kotex Natural Balance Security Unscented Tampons Regular Absorbency because the material that was used to make the product could have been contaminated with Enterobacter sakazakii bacteria.
The recalled tampons could cause women to become ill or suffer from a vaginal infection or urinary tract infection if used. Women with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk for infection.
There are only two product SKU numbers are being recalled. The last five digits of the SKU number 15063 (18-count packaging), and 15068 (36-count packaging). The tampons were the Kotex Natural Balance Security Unscented Tampons Regular Absorbency sold between October 29, 2011 and November 2, 2011. They were sent to Walmart stores in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Texas. Some Fry’s stores in Arizona and some Smith’s stores in Utah and Arizona have sold the recalled tampons. Stores have been notified and have pulled the recalled products from the shelves.

Consumers that have the product should stop using them and contact the company’s customer service toll-free number at 1-800-335-6839 to arrange for return of the unused product.
Women who have become ill from using the recalled product should seek medical attention for proper treatment of the infection.
