Digital News Report – Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) announced that they are giving out over $10 million worth of free flu shot voucher to those that don’t have insurance and cannot afford to pay for it. Helping to distribute the vouchers include the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and local public health officials.
Over 300,000 of the free flu shot vouchers are available to eligible US residents. The vouchers are not available at the Walgreens pharmacy locations in Puerto Rico. The flu shot vouchers will be good for one free flu shot at any Walgreens pharmacy, Duane Reade pharmacy in New York, or at the Take Care Clinic.
Kathleen Sebelius, HHS Secretary said, “Last season, more than 40 percent of Americans got their flu shots but there are still millions of people who are without adequate insurance and unable to afford one. This generous donation is helping many people who otherwise might not be protected from influenza. HHS looks forward to working with local community pharmacies as we continue to reduce health disparities and make it possible for more individuals and families to get their annual flu vaccine.”
The flu shots are on a first come first-serve basis and are only available while supplies last. There also may be other restrictions based on the state, or the person’s age.
