Digital News Report – Stocks were mixed Friday, with financial and consumer cyclical stocks gaining the most. Seven of the twelve sectors we monitor were lower. The healthcare sector was down 1.01 percent, which was the worst performer.
Big Lots, Inc. (NYSE:BIG), one of the service sector components, was a major laggard. The share price closed down $3.45 (-8.68 %) to $36.28 on Friday. In the after hours, there was a bid of $35.24 on 100 shares and an ask of $36.27 for 600 shares.
The service sector as a whole was up 0.26 percent. Other components in this sector fared better than Big Lots. Cost Plus, Inc. (NASDAQ:CPWM) closed at $9.51, up 93 cents (+10.84%). The volume of trading for Cost Plus was more than double the average.
The closing share price of Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) on Friday was $16.16, up $1.57 (+10.76%). Last month, the stock was as low as $11.39, on November 7, 2011.
