Digital News Report – The 2012 Tournament of Roses Parade will be on Monday, January 2, because New Year’s Day landed on a Sunday. This is the 123rd time that the Rose Parade has been held.
This year’s Grand Marshall of the parade is Iraq Veteran, actor, and motivational speaker, J.R. Martinez. He also was the inner of season 13 of ABC’s ‘Dancing with the Stars.’
Plenty of preparation goes into the floats. All the materials covering the float is from some part of a plant. This often includes colorful flowers, but can also include pieces of coconut shell and more. Volunteers have been working on applying the decorations on the float for the last several weeks. Some flowers have to be put on the float at the last minute to make sure that they will retain their vibrant colors.
The Rose Parade precedes the college football Rose Bowl Game that is going to be played on Monday, January 2, 2012 following the parade. The Big Ten and Pacific-12 conference championship teams vying for the win this Monday are the Wisconsin Badgers versus the Oregon Ducks. The 2011 Rose Bowl game had the Wisconsin Badgers lose to TCU Horned Frogs, 19-21. The college football game will be televised on ESPN. There will also be radio broadcast of the football game on ESPN Radio and XM Satellite Radio.
The theme this year is “Just Imagine…” The famous Pasadena Rose Parade will start at 8 am (Pacific Standard Time). There are several TV channels to watch the parade. HGTV, ABC, NBC, the Hallmark Channel, and more will be covering the event. Visit the official Rose Parade website for a complete TV channel list for all the broadcast partners.
