Digital News Report – There are currently two airfare sales going on. AirTran has Fall airfare sale, while Virgin America is selling discount flights to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
AirTran Airfare Sale August 30 – September 1, 2011
The AirTran airfare sale is going on now and ends midnight (PDT) on September 1, 2011. Travel for this airfare is between September 9, 2011 through December 14, 2011. The lowest priced airfare prices are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The next best prices for travel days are on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Flight reservations need to be made 10-days in advance.
Fares are as low as $59 one-way. AirTran does not require overnight stays or return flights reservations to get discount. Additional fees and taxes are not included in the advertised rates. The first bag checked is $20 and the second bag checked.

Pet Lovers Airfare Sale with Virgin America August 30 – September 1, 2011
The Virgin America Airfare Sale is called “No Chihuahua Left Behind” as the airlines will pledge $25 for every flight booked during the sale event. The sale only involves flights from the San Francisco International airport to Pureto Vallarta International Airport in Mexico.
Travel dates must be made between September 6, 2011 and December 15, 2011. The flights range between $49 and $129 one-way. There are also taxes and fees that are not included in the advertised discounted airfare price. Fridays and Sundays are not included in this airfare sale. The flight reservations need to be made 7 days in advance of the actual flight date.
Virgin America has pledged to donate $25 for each flight reservation up to 1,200 tickets sold. The money will go to San Francisco Animal Care and Control rescue efforts to help fund the agency. The total donation will not exceed $25,000.
