Digital News Report – According to the National Retail Federation (NFR), 226 million shoppers visited stores both online and offline during Black Friday. Last year, there were 212 million shoppers on Black Friday. This year’s Black Friday had 226 million shoppers, according to the NFR report.
The average shopper spent $398.62, $33.27 more than last year, and the money spent was $52.4 billion, breaking records. Black Friday does help improve stores’ profit and income, and considering the next biggest holiday is Christmas, people will be thinking of gifts to give. Helping the sales might have been the extended shopping hours. Many stores opened earlier than last year and had sales going on before and on Thanksgiving Day.
“I would say that means we will have to be on the look-out for a new tradition and that is more and more stores will be opening on Thanksgiving night next year,” said the industry analyst at the NPD Group, Marshal Cohen.
