Digital News Report – The day after Christmas brings sales from retailers, for another round of savings. The day after Christmas is on a Monday. Some people may have received gift cards for presents, or even cash. There is also the dilemma of returning the gifts that were less than stellar to the store in hopes of getting just the right gift.
The Sunday Newspaper will have ad circulars for retailers’ ‘Day after Christmas Sales.’ There will be good discounts to get shoppers to their store. If you do not usually buy the newspaper, you can always visit the store’s online website for a copy of the current ad in your area.
There was some great discounts on clothing, including sweaters, fleece, and pajamas. Women’s boots were heavily discounted this holiday shopping season, and this trend might continue after Christmas. Jewelry deals were everywhere to be found.
Some off brand HDTV sets were very affordable this holiday season. The same is true for android tablets. If you weren’t looking for the name brand tablets, there was several for around $100. Amazon Kindle has a ebook reader for as low as $79, but you get advertisements with that low price. The Nook tablet is also helping to lower the price of tablets, with the Nook Color at $199. The Amazon Fire, which also allows for web browsing and apps is also $199.
It seemed like everywhere you looked this was discounts of 50 – 70 percent off regular price. However, remember to ask yourself if the discounted price is a good price. Does the item offer the quality for the asking price?
One thing to consider shopping is the toy departments and the holiday decorations, wrapping paper, and Christmas cards. After Christmas, discounts in these departments will show up, especially if it is a temporary display for the store. Consider checking out the drugstores such as RiteAid or CVS for clearance sales on holiday items, which are advertising 50 percent discount on a variety of Christmas items. You can find toys that are marked down. Candy canes will be on sale, as everyone will have had their fill usually.
At the grocery store the day after Christmas, check the meat department for hams and turkeys that have been defrosted. Sometimes there will be discounts on these items to help clear them out. Be ready to roast them right away and put the extra meat into the freezer for another day. Another thing that can start to be discounted is eggnog. Some grocers will discount this after Christmas day while other may wait until after January 1. If you have an ice cream maker, you can take the eggnog and make ice cream with it, no cooking required! Christmas candy is often marked down at the grocery stores as well, and it can be cheap too. One year I paid 10 cents for a package of candy canes that sold for one dollar just days before.
The next round of sales coming in January will be fitness and health themed sales, and big screen HDTV sales. The NFL Superbowl will also motivate some snack food sales for the event. The fitness gear can include exercise equipment and activewear. Running shoes could also be promoted during the coming month. The HDTV sales will be promoted prior to the NFL Superbowl.
