Digital New Report – California parents may have new options if Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signs the bill that is likely to pass the state Senate today. The governor has already said he will sign the legislation which will allow California to compete for $4.3 billion made available under the Race to the Top initiative.
Failing schools, under this legislation, can be closed by state officials. New principals and administrators may be hired and half of the staff could be replaced. Parents can also take their kids out of the low-performing schools and place them in other better performing schools.
“And this is to make certain changes so that the children of California get a better education, so we make sure that if children are stuck in low-performing schools they can move on to another school or to another school district,” the governor said today.
The bill passed the Assembly yesterday.
