Digital News Report – Former Senator and Presidential Candidate John Edwards has come clean about his affair with Rielle Hunter and a child born from that relationship. Edwards first lied about the relationship and then apparently hid the truth about the baby.
The National Enquirer broke both stories but Edwards called the reports tabloid sensationalism. Yesterday there were discussions about giving the National Enquirer a Pulitzer Prize for their journalism. Respect for the supermarket tabloid has increased markedly.
A year and a half ago Edwards said the report published in a “supermarket tabloid” about his love-child was “not true.” Later he finally admitted to the affair but didn’t think it was possible the child was his.
When confronted with the alleged picture of him holding his baby, he told Nightline: “I have no idea what that picture is… I don’t know if that picture is me.”
“Can I explain to you what happened? First of all, it happened during a period when she (his wife Elizabeth) was in remission… I grew up in a small town in South Carolina…”
Edwards went on to talk about his humble life growing up. The humble beginnings led to him being a senator and presidential candidate, “all of which fed a self focused an egotism, a narcissism that lead you to believe you can do whatever you want.”
When asked why he lied, Edwards told Bob Woodruff he “didn’t want the public to know” what he had done.
But why did Edwards come clean now? ABC News has taped an interview with a former staffer, Andrew Young, which is set to air on Friday. In that interview Young said Edwards asked him to claim the paternity.
Young is publishing a book next week called “The Politician”. In it he makes several allegations.
“He is doing it a week before my book comes out,” Young said. “There is going to be some stuff (he can’t deny). There are voice mails in his voice, and voice mails in Elizabeth’s voice, that absolutely contradict almost everything he has said.”
“He also asked for me to arrange for a fake paternity test,” Young said. “He asked me to steal a diaper so he could secretly do a DNA test to see if it was indeed his child.”
Young said he ignored Edwards’ requests. Next week the network will air an interview with Young where more stunning allegations are revealed.

NOTE TO JOHN AND ELIZABETH EDWARDS:
Your supporters are owed their money back!
They believed in you, they trusted you and so they donated to your campaign.
Many gave you money they could ill afford because they BELIEVED…but you were living a lie, both of you.
You are a wealthy people. Most of your supporters are average, hard-working Americans who try to help people like you succeed because they believe you can make a difference.
You stole their money! You took donations under false pretenses because you both know you should never have launched your 2008 presidential campaign.
Show some integrity.
Repent! Repent by paying them back.
It’s the right thing to do.
Give supporters their money back???? Seriously? I hate all these self righteous people that come out of the woodwork when this crap comes up. Who cares its his life??? What President has not had some crazy scandal??? Some way worse than this..hello George Bush Sr???? I certainly don’t care, its not like he sold nukes to our enemies. Get your priorities in order. All these people who act so moral and perfect are usually the most guilty.
