Today, Senator Strickland attended a press conference at Quallion, the leading lithium-ion battery manufacturer, to promote legislation designed to boost green technology through tax relief. Senator Strickland joined Governor Schwarzenegger, Senator Alex Padilla, Quallion management and several other officials to share the details of the proposal.
New legislation has been proposed that will exempt the purchase of green technology equipment from sales tax. Governor Schwarzenegger has promoted the idea as part of an effort to promote clean, renewable energy and stimulate the economy and job creation. With renewable energy and job creation as the central themes of Senator Strickland’s ideas for returning California to prosperity, he seized the opportunity to help craft the legislation.
“This bill will help transition California to a more renewable, energy efficient economy”, Strickland stated. “Green technology manufacturing is important for several reasons. Not only is it making a positive impact on our environment but it’s also providing much needed jobs at a crucial time. This is win-win legislation that should be implemented right away”
Senator Strickland has joint-authored this legislation with Senator Alex Padilla who represents Sylmar, home to Quallion. Both Senators stressed the importance of the legislation and the benefit of jumpstarting an industry that can not only create much needed jobs but make California a leader in green technology and renewable energy.
“This legislation is a clear step in the right direction,” said Strickland. “I have consistently pushed for allowing green technology to drive our economic recovery. Prosperity and responsible stewardship of our environment are not mutually exclusive. This legislation is an excellent example of that.”
