Digital News Report – A dangerous condition with driver’s side airbags has prompted Honda Motor Company to recall an additional 378,758 vehicles in the U.S. The airbags can deploy with too much pressure causing “injury or fatality”, according to the car manufacturer.
They have known about this problem already and have recalled models they knew were affected. This February 9th recall expands the original recall in November, 2008. The company acknowledges 12 incidents related to this problem. They are unaware of any problems since July 2009 but can’t be certain the airbags will perform as designed.
“Therefore, we have decided to add certain 2001 and 2002 Accord, Civic, Odyssey, CR-V, and selected 2002 Acura TL vehicles to this recall,” the company said in a statement.
The company will be notifying their customers this month by mail. After customers receive the notice, they are asked to bring their car in for service. Customers can call (800) 382-2238 for more details and to see if they need to bring their car in to a dealer.
Here is the problem:
There were two types manufacturing machines used in pressing the inflator propellant. One propellant manufacturing process allowed us to verify that all of the propellant was within specification, but we cannot validate the other process to our satisfaction at this time. We have decided to recall all inflator assemblies that were not confirmed by 100-percent automatic inspection during production because we cannot be absolutely certain they will all perform as designed, even though recent testing of units from this production process performed correctly.

I have a 2002 CRV and a Civic . The air bag light has just come on last week. Should I bring the both vehicles in for the recall ? . Thanks Loring Day
Loring Day:
I would definitely get the one with the light on to the dealer. It could just be a bad sensor, but can never be too careful.
