Digital News Report – Besides the new government relief program that President Obama announced last week, there is other government assistance programs set up for homeowners and renters.
The goal is to help Americans get rid of their credit card debt but also stay out of debt. There are some steps you can take to lower your bills including contacting your credit card company and asking for a lower rate.
States are also offering debt help. The state of California has the “Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief” program that was update in March. This program is designed to help homeowners in foreclosure.
Besides debt help the state also helps consumers deal with debt collectors. Much of the debt which leads to foreclosure is generated via credit cards and other non-secured loans. There are rules that debt collection agencies need to follow.
Besides advice, the government is offering money to help Americans. “Thankfully, President Obama’s appealing offer of billions of dollars in Federal Grant money for debt alleviation could not have been more opportune given these times of dreadful need,” Lindsay Emery said in a recent blog.
