Digital News Report – The toughest illegal immigration law in the United States was signed Friday by Governor Jan Brewer. If police suspect someone is in the U.S. illegally they are required by law to ask for proof of citizenship or legal residency. Anyone who is unable to provide proof is subject to arrest on misdemeanor charges.
After it is confirmed that the individual is here illegally they are subject to a fine of at least $500 and up to six months in jail.
Arizona SB1070 does not state what documents are sufficient to prove legal residency or citizenship, but it is a crime to be without them. Critics say there could be racial profiling.
The law is based on the “attrition through enforcement” doctrine which will “significantly reduce the size of the illegal alien population at a reasonable cost”, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.
The law is expected to be challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Not all police groups in Arizona favor its enactment but the law is generally supported by the rank and file.

GOOD JOB AZ. We need this crackdown in all south states esp right here in CA, where we are overran by illegals here! Every aspect of our lives is wasted by illegals. Example when i want to send my kids to school the public ones are full of ‘english learners’ (illegals or kids of) now i must spend tons of money on private schools, why do we even pay taxes?
Problem is Arizona it targeting the wrong villan.
Illegal immigration is caused by American citizens and legal residents who prefer the cheap labor of illegal immigrants
If you want to stem the tide of illegals crossing the borders, you need to start jailing businesses, farmers and families who entire these illegals to mow their lawns, pluck their chickens and wait their tables.
Of course you can see the problem.
Those folks are mainly white, mainly wealthy and mainly Republican.
