Digital News Report – Television has been changing with the Internet. There are online movie rental websites that will stream the show online, you can watch episodes that you missed on the Internet. New HDTV television sets are coming with Wi-Fi wireless internet connectivity. You can also get BluRay players that will connect to the internet. Game consoles can also connect to the internet and have been used as with online movie rental service Netflix to stream videos on demand. Having a television able to connect to the Internet makes it easier to watch what you want when you want. Google has got involved with the emerging Internet TV market and they announced today their new Google TV. This service will let you browse the Internet on your television for videos to watch on your television.
Google TV is like a landing page for your shows and more. You can save your favorite shows, so you can reference them quickly and easily on the television set. Google TV will be shipping with some new equipment that is made by Sony and Logitech. They teamed up with the electronic manufacturers to help change the way we watch TV in the years to come.
Will it replace cable or satellite TV? Not right away. Internet speeds can be the bottle neck for the time being. Faster Internet connections are around the corner, which will make watching the TV over the Internet more practical. People would still need to upgrade their TV sets to the higher resolution HDTV sets to have a crisp easy to read browser on their TV set. The resolution on the older TV sets are not that crisp and clear.
Google TV is a landing page that will bring together a multimedia experience. You can look at your favorite photos, listen to music, browse the Internet, get news updates, and of course watch your favorite TV shows.
Google TV is built upon Android and Google Chrome Internet browser. Google is reporting that Android mobile phone apps are being created just for TV watching on the cell phone. The video below gives a simplified explanation of what Google TV will do for consumers.
