Digital News Report – NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – According to Movers.com usage data, in the first quarter of 2010, one move size dominated Movers.com-aided moves: two-bedroom home moves made up nearly 30 percent of the total number of moves (excluding auto shipments and international moves). That number isn’t surprising, though, as most homes are two-bedroom homes.
Two-bedroom home moves led the pack by a wide margin, with three-bedroom home moves coming in second at 17.6 percent. Following closely were small, one-bedroom home moves; partial home moves; and large, one-bedroom home moves at 15, 13.3, and 13 percent respectively. The least common move-types were four-bedroom homes (6 percent), studio apartments (5 percent), and larger-than-four-bedroom home moves (2 percent).
Partial; studio; large, one-bedroom; three-bedroom; and larger-than-four-bedroom moves all dropped in number from January to February, but bounced back and saw a significant increase from February to March. All other move sizes increased in number per month at similar rates.
Local and long-distance moves are by far the most common move types. In the first quarter of the year, they both made up about the same percentage of all Movers.com-assisted moves. Local came in at about 40 percent, and long-distance came in at about 37 percent. Comparatively, auto shipments and international moves made up only about 15 and 8 percent respectively.
Local moves were the only move types to see a steady increase from month to month. Long-distance moves, auto shipments, and international moves all saw a decrease in number from January to February, but bounced back and significantly increased from February to March.
