Digital News Report – Google launched their new Google eBooks service which offers free reading as well as paid for digital copies of books. The Google eBook service will work on several different platforms and eBook readers that support the Adobe eBook platform.
Two major ebook readers that will work with Google eBooks are the Barnes & Noble Nook™ and Sony’s Reader™. You can also read on your mobile Google Android based smartphone. You can read on your computer. If you have an Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch you can also read Google eBooks on these devices.
When you go to books.google.com you will now see books for sale as well as for free. You can still search Google Books without an account without having to log into a Google account. When you want keep track of your books, be it free or paid, you will want to log into your google account. This will place your selection in a My Google eBooks. That way you can access your books whenever you log into this account.
The new formatting for reading the books are improved greatly, so even though you have to log in, the navigation and being able to access your stash of books is a nice improvement. It is a little hard to navigate at first, but after you search you can find more free books, and if you want to change a page number you can enter this in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
