Digital News Report – As the newly elected officials take to the House of Representatives, there was something different that happened today in the House floor, congress members read the entire US Constitution. The House is now a Republican majority for the 112th Congress and Tea Party candidates have urged for this reading of the document.
The elected officials took turns to read parts of the US Constitution. It was not only to remind Congress members about what the country was founded upon, but this is also an effort to get citizens to become interested in the US Constitution again and hopefully read it for themselves.
The efforts of newly elected Tea Party candidate, Rep. Bob Goodlatte from Virginia, was directly involved in getting the House to read the US Constitution line-by-line by its members.
PBS News have posted footage of the reading of the US Constitution in the House of Representatives. You can watch the whole reading below. The first section is of the preview leading up to the reading itself.

I think this is pretty cool actually. And am surprised it’s never been done before. I just wish they would adhere to the Constitution. I’d like to hope that this new congress will but I don’t know whether to cross my fingers or not. It’s politics after all.
I’m pretty confident that this so called “New Congress” is not going to be any different then the old. I mean reading of the constitution..really?? I’m sure before any of these politicians ran for office they either read the constitution or referred to it at some point. I am not sold on the quote from Boehner either this is “the people’s house” he seems very convincing but people keep in mind he is a politician and that is there job. But the reading of the constitution to me is a waste of time and a day in the house. There are far more important issues to address then reading a document that everyone already knows!!

That is one of my fears, Jason. That they won’t be any different.
