Digital News Report – AT&T have agreed to buy T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom said the company today. The purchase is valued at around $39 billion. Both companies have approved the transaction, however the sale of T-Mobile USA needs to gain US regulatory approval. If approved the transaction is expected to be completed sometime during the first half of 2012.
The reason AT&T has purchased T-Mobile USA was to further expand their 4G LTE network and will offer this network to the T-Mobile customers.
The Deutsche Telekom company will have an 8 percent stake in the company. Deutsche Telekom will get $14 billion in AT&T shares and $25 billion in cash for the sale of T-Mobile USA.
The merger has got T-Mobile USA customers all on Twitter posting their views on the announcement. Some felt it was a good decision for AT&T, while others were in shock by the announcement. One Twitter user suggested or joked that Verizon will be next.
