Digital News Report – Insidious opens this weekend in theaters.
Directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell, the film chronicles the terror a family goes through when they discover the body of their comatose boy is attracting evil entities.
Insidious stars Patrick Wilson as Josh, a father trying to hold his family together in a haunted house. They move hoping to put the tragedy behind them, but the supernatural spirits follow them.
Josh and his wife, Renai played by Rose Byrne (Knowing), soon discover that their son is trapped in a dark (and insidious) realm called “The Further”.
“This played like a family drama turned on its head,” Wilson told shocktillyoudrop.com. “I think with horror movies people like that shock hitting you. They like the gore, which this movie doesn’t have, or the psychology fear, which this film does have. That’s why it works.”
Wilson calls the horror flick low-budget, but says the script makes the movie. “I was halfway through the script and I called my agent and was like, have you read it? Put it at the top of your pile,” Wilson said.
Both Whannell and Wan were involved in “Saw” (2004). Whannell assisted Wan in the Saw screenplay while playing Adam in Saw I and III.
