On last week’s show, a mom spent $160 for a family of six to feed them for the month. The amount of food purchased for $160 was really inspiring. She bought things like ground beef, yogurt and mashed potato mix. She planned out her menu a month in advance so that she would use all the food that she planned on buying that day. It was amazing how organized she had print outs on how the items had to be grouped during checkout in order to get the discounts. She also recommended bringing her coupon archive just in case there was an unexpected opportunity. She found a clearance on Viactiv calcium supplements that was already a good deal, but she added the coupons which made it an unbelievable deal.
On another episode, there was a coupon clipper that would collect neighbors old newspaper coupon ad inserts. They didn’t mind at all to help her. That way she could have a good resource of coupons to save money.
One thing I noticed was that there was effort and preparation in there shopping trips. It often took well over an hour to checkout. But even before going shopping they would spend hours researching and planning their shopping trip. One coupon shopper said she would shop either really late at night or early in the morning after the shelves had been stocked with products.
So if you are serious about saving some money, it can be done, but realize that you will be spending a little bit of time at it. If you are looking to save the money that is showcased on these shows it is fun to watch an be inspired. There is a lot of great insights on how these extreme couponers save big money. Much of their food is free or almost free to at the checkout stand once they use their coupons.
